Places I'd Like to Visit in Scotland at Autumn Time

As I'm sure everyone who reads my blog knows by now, Autumn is one of my most favourite times of year. I love the changing colours of the leaves, the darker days to spend cosied up inside and of course the sunny Autumnal days for getting out and going for walks. There are a few places I'd like to visit at Autumn time so I thought I'd share my list here on my blog.

New Lanark

I visit New Lanark at all times of the year - in all seasons and weathers. I love it throughout the year for different reasons but I really do love going there in Autumn because the walks to the falls are so lovely at this time of year with the changing colour of the leaves and crunchy leaves on the ground. It’s lovely on a sunny Autumn day because everything looks so Autumnal with the sun shining down through the trees and orange leaves. It really just puts you in the autumnal mood. It’s such a great place for a walk in nature, spotting wildlife and following the water. It’s one of my favourite places.

Edinburgh

I usually only go to Edinburgh at Christmas time for the Christmas markets - and one year went in summer for the Fringe Festival - but I would love to visit in Autumn time. The old cobblestone streets would feel very atmospheric at this time of year plus all the trees are changing colours and gives a very autumnal feel to it all. There are also pretty walks nearby as well as hot chocolate vans/huts round about too which sell the best hot chocolates I’ve ever had. I think even going on a dull/rainy day would be lovely at this time of year because you could nip into a cafe and sit by the window all cosy taking in the views and sights of the city.

The Hermitage

The first time I visited the Hermitage was a few years ago at Autumn time and ever since then, I’ve always wanted to go back again. Located near Dunkeld in Perthshire, Scotland and managed by the National Trust for Scotland, surrounded by trees and lovely nature walks, a waterfall and pools, this is the perfect place to visit at Autumn. I’d really love to go on a sunny Autumnal day because all the colours from the trees will really pop and look stunning. However, even on a dull, rainy day, this is still a perfect place to visit. There’s also a little donut van in the car park called Full Circle Donuts that serves fresh hot donuts with a choice of toppings. I got one drizzled with chocolate the last time I was there and it was delicious. I love going on walks through trees and nature at this time of year so it really is just the perfect place.

Peebles

Peebles is a nice place to visit at this time of year. You’ve got your nice places to walk surrounded by trees and nature plus also close to a variety of shops, cafes and bookstores nearby. It reminds me of little towns that you see in movies or tv shows and at this time of year it’s so pretty to walk around and take in the sights. Just a nice place to visit at this time of year. You can go for a walk along the river, walking through leaves and seeing all the pretty colours of the trees and then stop into a little cafe for a coffee or a quiet bookshop. There’s a really good cake/chocolate shop called Cocoa Black which is always worth a visit into as well.

Glasgow Botanical Gardens

I really enjoying going to the botanical gardens at this time of year because, again, all the plants and trees are changing to their nice warm Autumn colours and everything feels so cosy even on a dark, rainy day. I went in during Autumn time a few years ago and had such a lovely day wandering around the gardens and going for a nice walk outside. It was a pretty dull, rainy day, but still very much enjoyable. Plus, being in Glasgow, again there were plenty of cafe/food/drink options for places to go while there too.

Where do you like to visit at this time of year?

Bye for now, xo
