Good Book Series' To Read

In my last post, I gave some suggestions on some movie franchises to watch if you were looking for something to do. This post comes with the same sort of idea only this time it on book series' that you might enjoy reading. If you're like me and love to read, then you'll know what it's like to reach the end of a book and wish there was more to the story. With book series - much like with series of movies - you can live in these imaginary literary worlds for longer when there is more than one book. I'm always on the hunt for new books to read, and if you are too - here are some suggestions of some book series' that I enjoy.

Harry Potter - J.K. Rowling
A series of seven books about a young boy named Harry Potter and his adventures as he attends Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, learns how to perform magic and makes a bunch of great friends along the way who are willing to help him with whatever he needs to do. Eventually, he must come face to face with his archenemy, Lord Voldemort, in order to save the wizarding world.

The Hunger Games - Suzanne Collins
The books are set in a dystopian universe in Panem, a North American country consisting of the wealthy capitol and 13 districts in varying states of poverty. Every year, children from the first 12 districts are selected via lottery to participate in a compulsory televised battle royale death match called The Hunger Games. The books follow Katniss Everdeen, a 16 year old from the poor district 12, who takes part in the Hunger Games (twice!) and eventually goes on to become the leader of a revolution to overthrow the capital and bring an end the barbaric games.

Twilight - Stephenie Meyer
The books follow the later teen years of  Isabella "Bella" Swan - a girl who moves to Forks Washington to live with her dad. When she meets Edward Cullen - a vampire - her life takes a thrilling, terrifying and romantic turn. Within the novels, Bella is reunited with an old friend - Jacob Black - who also happens to be a werewolf. This causes tensions and old conflicts to arise again between vampires and werewolves. Will they set aside their differences to come together to defeat the Volturi - the most ancient and powerful of vampires?

The Maze Runner - James Dashner
Set in a post-apocalyptic dystopian future, the books follow Thomas as he tries to remember what he has forgotten all while being trapped in the Glade - a walled encampment at the centre of a bizarre and terrible stone maze The only thing Thomas remembers is his first name. He's surrounded by boys who welcome him to the Glade. Thomas must work out who WICKED are and what is going on in the outside world that is so terrible that the Glade had to be established in the first place.

A Series of Unfortunate Events - Lemony Snicket
A series of thirteen books which  follow the turbulent lives of Violet, Klaus and Sunny Baudelaire. After their parents' death in a fire, the children are placed in the custody of an evil relative, named Count Olaf, who attempts to steal their fortune. Olaf orchestrates numerous disasters with the help of his accomplices as the children attempt to flee. The Baudelaires gradually confront further mysteries surrounding their family and deep conspiracies involving a secret society known with connections to Olaf, their parents, and their other relatives.

The Mortal Instruments - Cassandra Clare
A series of six young adult fantasy novels which follows Clary Fray (who interacts with a group of  Nephilim known as Shadowhunters) while also discovering her own heritage. The Shadowhunters protect the world of mundane people from dark forces beyond their world. Clary had lived a fairly ordinary life with her mum until she met Jace - a shadowhunter - and her true life and secrets her mother kept from her began to unravel. After her mother disappears, Clary must venture into the dark world of demon hunting and embrace her new role among the shadowhunters.

Divergent - Veronica Roth
This book trilogy is set in a dystopian world where citizens are defined by their social and personality-related affiliation with five different factions (Abnegation, Amity, Candor, Dauntless and Erudite) which removes the threat of anyone exercising independent will and threatening the population's safety. Beatrice Prior (Tris), an Abnegation-born and Dauntless transfer, must figure out her life as a Divergent, while concealing her true nature, and living with the danger of being killed if it is discovered by the Erudite and Dauntless leaders.
