2019 Reading List

In the last few months of of 2018 I started to get back into reading and was reading a couple of books each month which I was loving. I bought so many new books at the end of last year that I had to buy and build a bookcase for my room to store them all (such a great decision, wish I'd done it sooner instead of trying to shove every single book into the storage space under my bed😄).

So far in 2019 I've been really busy with uni and placement work and have had practically no time to read. I've had lots of assigned uni readings which have meant that reading for fun has had to be put on hold for now. Once I've sat all my exams in May, I really want to get back into reading again, especially as I've got so many new books to read. I thought I'd share, on my blog, a list of some of the books I want to read this year.

You - Caroline Kepnes
“When aspiring writer Guinevere Beck strides into the bookstore where Joe works, he is instantly smitten. But there's more to Joe than Beck realises and much more to Beck than her perfect facade. And the obsessive relationship quickly spirals into a whirlwind of deadly consequences...”

Letters to the Lost - Brigid Kemmerer
“Juliet always writes letters to her mother. After her mother's death, she leaves letters at her grave in order to cope. Declan isn't the sort of guy you want to cross. In the midst of his court-ordered community service at the local cemetery, he's trying to escape his past. When Declan reads a haunting letter left beside a grave, he can't resist writing back. But neither Declan nor Juliet know that they're not actually strangers. When life interferes with their secret letters, sparks will fly as they discover truths that might tear them apart.”

Stardust - Neil Gaiman
“Life moves at a leisurely pace in the tiny town of Wall - named after the imposing barrier which separates the town from a grassy meadow. Here, young Tristran Thorn has lost his heart to the beautiful Victoria Forester and for the coveted prize of her hand, Tristran vows to retrieve a fallen star and deliver it to his beloved. It is an oath that sends him over the ancient wall and into a world that is dangerous and strange beyond imagining . . .”

After the Fire - Will Hill
“Father John controls everything inside The Fence. He likes rules -especially about never talking to Outsiders. Because Father John knows the truth. He knows what is right, and what is wrong. He knows what is coming. Moonbeam is starting to doubt, though. She's starting to see the lies behind Father John's words. She wants him to be found out. What if the only way out of the darkness is to light a fire?”

Fallen - Lauren Kate
“Instant. Intense. Weirdly familiar . . . The moment Luce looks at Daniel she knows she has never felt like this before. Except she can't shake the feeling that she has . . . and with him - a boy she doesn't remember ever setting eyes on.
Will her attempt to find out why enlighten her - or destroy her?”

Two Can Keep a Secret - Karen McManus
“Echo Ridge is reeling. This picturesque town experienced its first tragic loss in 1005 when high-school senior Sarah Corcoran vanished while walking hime from the library. Then five years ago, homecoming queen Lacey Kilduff was found dead. Now the killer claims to be back. A small town that keeps losing its homecoming queens. Two murders still unsolved."

Asylum - Madeline Roux
“For Dan Crawford, the New Hampshire College Prep program is the chance of a lifetime. Except that when Dan arrives, he finds that the usual summer housing has been closed, forcing students to stay in the crumbling Brookline Dorm--formerly a psychiatric hospital. As Dan starts exploring Brookline's twisty halls and hidden basement, he uncovers disturbing secrets about what really went on here ... Brookline was no ordinary psychiatric hospital, and there are some secrets that refuse to stay buried.”

Revival - Stephen King
"In a small town, in the early 60s, a shadow falls over a small boy - Jamie Morton. A striking man, new minister Charles Jacobs. Soon they forge a deep bond, based on their fascination with simple experiments in electricity. Decades later they meet again. This meeting has profound consequences for both men. Their bond becomes a pact beyond even the Devil's devising and Jamie discovers that 'revival' has many meanings."

Noughts + Crosses - Malorie Blackman
“Sephy is a Cross: dark-skinned and beautiful and lives a life of privilege and power. Callum is a Nought: pale-skinned and poor. They've been friends since they were children, and they both know that's as far as it can ever go. Noughts and Crosses are fated to be bitter enemies - love is out of the question. However, these star-crossed lovers choose each other. But this is a love story that will lead both of them into terrible danger . . . and will have shocking repercussions for generations to come.”

The Dungeon House  - Martin Edwards
“20 years ago, Malcom Whitely discovers his wife Lysette is having an affair. The Whitely's are wealthy and live with their daughter in the magnificent Dungeon House. When Lysette tells Malcom their marriage is over, he snaps... Back to the present day, a cold case team are looking into the disappearances of two young girls. As the team digs down into the past, doubts arise about what exactly happened at the dungeon house 20 years ago."
