Current Film and Music Favourites

My original intention for this post had been to make a blog post about my current favourites in general but it ended up being more focused on films and music so I thought why not make a blog post just on the movies and music that I’ve been enjoying recently. I feel like all my blogging ideas at the moment are more focused on music and movies so I’m definitely going to need to come up with some better ideas at some point😄

If you’ve been reading my blog for a while now, you’ll know just how much I love movies (and how much I like talking about how much I like movies😄).  If you’ve been reading my blogs since I posted the “Five Facts About Me” blog post, you’ll also know that I have a large DVD collection.

(Blurred out books)

I always like to hear about the movies other people enjoy because then it gives me a chance to find out about even more movies that I could watch and enjoy. The top three movies that I have been loving recently are:

Bohemian Rhapsody (2018)
A few weeks ago I had finally seen the movie ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ the biographical film about Freddie Mercury and Queen. I had been a little worried that this movie wasn’t going to live up to the hype but it was honestly, in my opinion, a brilliant movie. I loved the story and, of course, the music. I’ve grown up listening to Queen’s music but had never really thought about their actual story and how they came to be and I found the movie so interesting. Of course the movie doe change factual details and stretches truths to make the movie more cinematic overall but I still enjoyed the movie nonetheless. I feel that a lot of people felt let down by the movie, in one aspect, because of these factual inaccuracies. As a cinematic movie however, it was very good. I felt the cast was perfect. I know that Rami Malek has received so much well deserved recognition for his portrayal of Freddie Mercury (he did an exceptionally good job, especially when it came to the Live Aid scene) but I feel that that actor who played Brian May - Gwilym Lee - also deserves much credit as I feel he was the absolute perfect person to play Brian. He looked and acted pretty much exactly like him, it was so cool! The actors who played Queens drummer Roger Taylor (played by English actor Ben Hardy) and Queens bassist John Deacon (played by Joe Mazzello) were also both brilliant. My favourite scene in the movie was where they recreated Queens full Live Aid set. It was done so brilliantly!

A Star Is Born (2018)
Another film that I recently watched and loved was ‘A Star Is Born’ (quick story - so when I went to buy the DVD the woman at the checkout was looking at me for a bit and was like “...I need to see some ID” ... the movie is rated 15. I’m 19... I thought she was joking so I laughed nervously. She wasn’t joking.) Anyway, the movie itself was really good. I hadn’t been fully sure what to expect when watching this movie as I didn’t really know too much about what it was about but a couple of my friends had seen it and loved it so of course I had to watch it too! I had heard a few of the songs from the film on the radio, plus I knew Lady Gaga was in it and I’ve always been a fan of hers.  Lady Gaga really can do it all! The acting was brilliant and I loved all the songs and the storyline itself was interesting and captivating. If you’ve yet to watch it, bring some tissues! I don’t usually cry at movies but I was very close with this one! (I still didn’t cry, but it was a close call so have tissues ready just incase😄).

Kingsman: The Secret Service (2014)
A film that I recently rewatched and remembered how much I loved was the first Kingsman film. Colin Firth and Taron Egerton are both great in this movie. I love that it’s action packed while also remaining humorous. This is a movie that my friends and I used to enjoy watching whenever we had movie nights in so it always brings back fun memories whenever I rewatch it.

A movie that I can’t wait to see is ‘Rocketman’, the Elton John biopic. I'm looking forward to watching this movie for two main reasons: Taron Egerton and Elton John music😄. I’m loving that older artists/bands are having films made about them as it allows a whole new generation to love and appreciate their music too.

Speaking of music, here’s 20 of the songs I’ve been loving recently:
  • Radio Ga Ga - Queen
  • Love of my Life - Queen
  • Keep Yourself Alive - Queen
  • Someone You Loved - Lewis Capaldi
  • The Most - Miley Cyrus
  • Landslide - Fleetwood Mac
  • Awkward - Scotty Sire

Bye for now, xo
